The Alpha Course

What is it?

The Alpha Course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions.  Nearly twenty million people worldwide have now attended The Alpha Course, running in tens of thousands of churches of all Christian denominations across the world.

Who is it for?

The Alpha Course is primarily for people who do not attend church, or don’t consider themselves Christian.

People attend The Alpha Course for a wide variety of reasons:  Some want to investigate whether God exists.  Others may have gone to church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.  Some just want to understand other people’s beliefs better.  Regardless of the reason, everyone is welcome.

How does it work?

The course is typically based around small groups of about six to eight people, hosted by one or two leaders whose role is to facilitate and encourage discussion.  People tend to remain in the same small groups for the duration of the course, so they can get to know each other, continue discussions and deepen friendships.

Each session begins with a meal – a chance to get to know others in the small group.  There is then a short talk followed by a 20-25 minute video, which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week.  This is followed by a time of discussion in the small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinions, ask questions and discuss with the rest of the group.

The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment.

What topics are covered?

Some of the topics covered during The Alpha Course are:

Who is Jesus?

Why did Jesus Die?

How can we have Faith?

What about Evil & Does God heal today?

During the ten-week course there is also a day where we will look at the role of the Holy Spirit.

How much does it cost?

The good news is that The Alpha Course is FREE!  You are most welcome as our guest.
